Clancy Brothers In Person at Carnegie Hall - Children's Medley

[Galway Bay]

Maybe someday I'll go back again to Ireland
If my dear old wife would only pass away
She nearly has my heart broke with her naggin'
You've got a mouth as big as Galway Bay

See her drinkin' sixteen pints of Pabst Blue Ribbon (commercial!)
And then she can walk home without a sway
If the sea was beer instead of salty water
She would live and die in Galway Bay

See her drinkin' ... Read More

How to set up a Brother HL-2070N Printer with DHCP

I must share this with the world.

If you have a Brother HL-2070N Printer, this is what you need to do to set it up (setup, configure). You want to set it up to get its IP address from your DHCP source - probably your router. The default settings does that.

Set the printer to factory default
1. Turn off printer
2. Hold go button and turn on again
3. Wait for 3 lights to glow
4. Let go of button
5. Press go button 6 times

Jared Diamond does a TED talk on why societies collapse, even when they know they are self destructing. It was recorded in 2003.

07:45 - "One interesting common thread has to do with - in many cases - the rapidity of collapse after a society reaches its peak... Within a few decades after their peak, they collapse."

11:00 - "How on earth did these societies not s ... Read More

Smart Advice for the HuffPost Investor: Two Studies Wall Street Wants to Bury

I recently was on national TV discussing 401(k) plans and my new book, The Smartest 401(k) Book You'll Ever Read. The producer of the segment wanted some controversy so she had an investment advisor appear with me.

The investment advisor recommended that employees select only actively managed funds in their 401(k) plans and use "independent advisors" (like him) to help them with their selections.

Most investors follow this advice.

[This loan soon to be owned by Freddie Mac, aka US Taxpayers]

A year ago, an Orange County Register investigation concluded that this block of Camile Street had one of the highest rates of subprime mortgages in the nation.

US builders forced to sell off holdings
Demand for new homes on the outskirts of US towns has fallen spectacularly in the last three years, while foreclosures and speculative building have created a far greater supply of homes than there are buyers. At the same time, soaring fuel costs have made the long commute to work that much less attractive.

The result is that farmland close to cities that has often been the seedbed for new housing developments is becoming le ... Read More

An armed guard poses beside pallets of $100 bills in Baghdad. Almost $12bn in cash was spent by the US-led authority

How the US sent $12bn in cash to Iraq. And watched it vanish

The US flew nearly $12bn in shrink-wrapped $100 bills into Iraq, then distributed the cash with no proper control over who was receiving it and how it was being spent.

"One CPA official described an environment awash in $100 bills," the memorandum says. "One contractor received a $2m payment in a duffel bag stuffed with shrink-wrapped bundles of currency. Auditors discovered that the key to a vault was kept in an unsecured backpack.

Sacramento bankruptcies shoot up 88%

Personal bankruptcies increased 88 percent in the Sacramento region in the first half of the year, and few debtors are showing up in court to plead for their houses.

Most owe more than their home is worth and have nothing to argue about.

This means large numbers of uncontested bankruptcies are packing court calendars. Business bankruptcies are up 50 percent from a year ago; total bankruptcies are up 68.5 percent.

The players range from small ice-cr ... Read More

Can you spot the American cyclist?

I took a ride yesterday along the American River Bike Trail and felt a little self-conscious in my jeans and T-shirt. Apparently, in order to ride a bicycle these days, you need bike shorts, bike shoes, bike socks, neon bike shirt - with various advertising, a camelback - to match the camel toe, riding gloves, racing goggles, neon helmet with a pointy back, and a $2000 graphite bicycle.

This morning, a friend at work said that she had seen me a few weeks ago on the trail going ... Read More
